If you love children’s books and literature or just want a fantastic family day out then come and join this year’s Northern Children’s Book Festival celebration in Sunderland.
Northern Children’s Book Festival is the largest free annual reading celebration for young people in Europe. The festival started in 1983 as a two day event and has grown into a two week celebration of books and reading with authors and illustrators meeting children in schools and libraries across the North East. Although a lot has changed in 31 years, The Northern Children’s Book Festival is still organised and run by all the public libraries between the Tees and the Tweed, with the express aim of connecting children with some of the UK’s top writers and passing on the enjoyment of reading for pleasure.
Our Gala Day Pop-up Festival in Sunderland is a chance for all the family to take part in the fun. As well as meeting our writers and illustrators in a wide range of entertaining sessions from toddlers to teenagers, you can also make a book, draw your favourite book character on the Doodle Wall, decorate a t-shirt, learn how to make your own animated film, listen to the tales of Mr Doom & Mrs Bloom and spot Alice in Wonderland characters around town.
Author signings: Each author session will be followed by a book signing and you can buy the books from our very own pop up Waterstones book shop in Sunderland City Library.
